6. Donation to the center for development of local services of social protection, Vranje, Serbia

We are happy to support the Shelter for Children and Youth Olivera Verica Đorđević for the second time since we started the Charity for Balkan Children. It’s been our goal to build long-term partnerships with institutions for children and youth across the Balkans, meeting the devoted staff and the children who rely on them.

We are dedicated to getting to know them, their struggles, and challenges, and doing what’s in our power to create new opportunities for them and make the world brighter. Hence, we’ve recently visited the Shelter for Children and Youth in Vranje to try and better understand its struggles.

As always, we are aware that the users at the Shelter need much more besides food, clothing, and shelter, especially at this time when inflation is rising and the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic are still lingering. Therefore, we have prepared and sent donation boxes with personal care and hygiene products necessary for the Shelter’s residents.

What they needed

We never make donations based on assumptions. Every institution we work with has different needs, so we contacted the Shelter for Children and Youth Olivera Verica Đorđević directly to find out what items they were lacking this time.

Once we’ve received a detailed list of products needed, we prepared the donation packages:

• Laundry detergent and fabric softener;
• Toilet paper and paper towels;
• Hygiene products and children’s cosmetics;
• Cleaning products;
• Dish soap;
• Canned and shelf-stable food.

Fortunately, unlike the last time when we encountered a few challenges with donation delivery, this donation went on without a hitch! We were able to deliver every item requested quickly and efficiently, and we look forward to doing so again in the future.

We aim to create an annual donation plan with the Shelter for Children and Youth Olivera Verica Đorđević and continue offering our support to them and institutions like theirs.
