Meet Jelena Mitić Pantić – A Champion for Change

At our Charity for Balkan Children, we are on a mission to create a positive impact in the lives of Balkan children. One of our endeavors is the Shelter for Children in Belgrade, where we provide a safe haven and essential support to those in need. Today, we share with you the inspiring stories of the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly at the Shelter and the incredible journey of transformation they facilitate for the children they serve.

Meet Jelena Mitić Pantić – A Champion for Change:

Jelena Mitić Pantić, a highly accomplished master’s graduate in special education with over 15 years of experience, is one of the passionate individuals driving change at the Shelter. In a candid interview, she shared her reasons for dedicating her life to this noble cause. For Jelena, it’s not just a job; it’s a calling that she finds deeply rewarding and dynamic.

Working at the Shelter presents unique challenges, particularly due to the diverse needs and individuality of each child. However, Jelena and her colleagues face these obstacles with unwavering compassion and dedication. They understand that each child has a different journey, requiring tailored support and care.

The Shelter serves as a lifeline for children in Belgrade who find themselves in challenging street situations. The challenging living conditions these children endure require more than just material assistance; it necessitates a supportive and empathetic community. The team at the Shelter aims to instill hope and belief in these children, empowering them to embrace the opportunities that come their way.

Donations play a vital role in ensuring the Shelter’s continued operations and impact. As a project-based service, the Shelter relies on the generosity of institutional donors, companies, and compassionate citizens. These contributions allow the team to provide essential resources, education, and a nurturing environment for the children, setting them on a path towards a brighter future.

After reaching a certain age and no longer availing Shelter services, the children receive support from the Youth Integration Center. The center offers vocational training, educational assistance, and employment opportunities. Witnessing children find their paths, complete their education, and secure gainful employment has been among the most gratifying experiences for Jelena and her team.

Jelena’s heartfelt message resonates deeply with all of us: she calls on society to be more compassionate, understanding, and accepting of these vulnerable children. With the collective support of the community, we can create an environment that nurtures growth and development, helping these children overcome adversity and thrive.
